I have a deep rooted interest in art, I had the bug from a very early age.
My first memory of me drawing is when I was around 3-4 years old. I used to love to draw mermaids, because I was obsessed with Disney’s version of The Little Mermaid at the time. I remember that one of my class mates at nursery critiqued my drawing by saying: She looks like she’s got a bra on her head.. I was obsessed with getting better at drawing ever since.
When I was a teenager, I wanted to go to art school to become an animator. Around this time I was obsessed with Japanese Anime style cartoons (I still am!). I didn’t have very good grades, so I didn’t try to get into the school. I have been regretting this decision ever since.
Since then, I’ve tried my hands on many forms of art, I’ve drawn a lot – mainly digitally – got into makeup art for a few years, which led to dabbling in fashion styling for a short period of time.
A few years on (about 10) here I am, trying my best to become better at what I’ve been doing all these years. I’m hoping that all my experience leading up to this point will be useful in some way.
The below mind map shows my areas of interest and the things that make me who I am.

Hello from Hungary
I feel that being Hungarian is a very big part of who I am. I think this is especially important since I don’t live in Hungary, so this is an aspect of me that is often getting more limelight than it should.
My starting point for this assignment was an embroidered tablecloth made by my grandmother. I thought this is quintessentially Hungarian, so this will serve as a good basis for my first piece.

I started by tracing the flower pattern from my Gran’s tablecloth.
I thought it turned out pretty charming, and initially thought to use different photo textures to fill in the colours instead of solid colours, but I’ve decided against this as it didn’t come out as expected.

I really liked the cutout effect from the above postcard, and wanted to emulate something similar in my design, so I went ahead and created the below:

I wanted to create some graphic lines around the flower motif to create a more modern layout, however I found it a little confusing and messy, so I decided to move onto a more simple approach.
From the above design I have arrived at my final design with the single cutout, and the hand written message. I chosen the handwritten style text to compliment the delicate flower pattern.

New Orleans
I visited New Orleans only once but it has left a lasting impression on me. The music, food, architecture, culture… I found all of it truly fascinating.
NOLA is a city that had a lot of different influences throughout the centuries and it somehow managed to hold onto a lot of these. I would like to learn from its diversity by creating my next postcard.
My initial idea is to create a postcard that encapsulates all things that made New Orleans so charming to me.
I’ve drawn up the below sketch.

My sketch for the New Orleans postcard.
After gathering the photo references I have taken whilst in NOLA, I found that the subjects I have selected for each of the arches, might be a little too complicated to depict as a small portion of an already quite small (A6) postcard.
I have decided to simplify my idea and just use the arches as a background with a simple text overlay, but make it interesting by masking out the text so it appears to be behind some objects.
This is my final piece; Welcome to NOLA

Greetings from Hollywood
I love cinema, so it was only natural that my next postcard to be Hollywood themed.
I wanted to create something that is both modern and classic at the same time. I gathered some photos that evoke the feeling I wanted to evoke.

I wanted to include the iconic Hollywood sign and some classic glamour. I was really inspired by the iconic shot of Marilyn Monroe, as I thought this picture has the essence of what I wanted to depict.
I decided to use some hand written lettering to evoke the feeling that of autographs, and also added some glow to the lettering. The latter maybe a little bit more typical of Las Vegas, but I wanted to make things pop a little.
My piece turned out a little simpler again than I wanted it to, but I am quite happy with the final look.

Reflection
I really enjoyed this assignment, and I feel like I have learnt some things about myself as a result. I feel like I have some great concepts, but not able to commit to these and execute them fully. My main challenge was not getting lost by trying to include too many ideas in one piece.
I think the first piece is the strongest, because I used something really close to my heart. I also think that I haven’t figured out yet what style of designs I like most, and hence the pieces are not cohesive overall.
